Be Of Value

beOfFValue

Life is tough. Running a business is tough. There are so many things I want to accomplish and succeed at but a lot of times I feel defeated by my lack of skill, talent, patience, the list goes on and on. Enter in Albert Einstein. This incredibly brilliant and successful man knew that success wasn’t the goal. The goal was to be of value to the world. To live and strive to make this earth a better place. I am trying to not focus on the successes and failures but figure out how I can be of value and do my part in contributing to the good of the world. So Mr. Einstein, thanks for reminding me to “Strive not too be a success but rather to be of value.”

Happy Tuesday!

The Handlettered ABC Challenge

abc_1 abc_2 abc_3

We just finished the HandletteredABCs challenge, one letter a day for 26 days and boy was it more work than we thought! Above are all our letters from the challenge and we are so glad that we committed and stuck with it. Like we said in our IG post, here are a few things we learned (apologies for the repetition)…

  1. I could never do a 365 day challenge. 26 was long enough ūüėā
  2. Sketch it out! The power of the pencil is real people.
  3. Wait before you fiercely erase your sketch marks. Gotta love the smudged ink after spending way too much time sketching and drawing.
  4. Practice doesn’t make perfect letters but you’ll get pretty darn close each time.
  5. ¬†Take RISKS! Don’t be intimidated and just start drawing. Something will come out of it. Maybe.
  6. You are more creative than you think. This is a big one. The hand lettered community is so positive and encouraging and I saw this even more with all the wonderful comments we received. After drawing a posting a letter that we thought was particular boring, our hand lettered friends would leave such wonderful words on our feed that we couldn’t help but be inspired for the next letter to come.

This challenge was definitely eye opening and pushed as creators and makers. In fact, we turned these fun and fancy letters into an ABC poster as part of our hand lettered series prints coming to the shop soon. Can you spot the letters we used?!

_like a girl!

likeAGirl

Happy National Handwriting Day! We have recently joined the world of hand lettering and can confidently say we are addicted. Every day there is this need to hand letter something, ANYTHING! But there is a purpose behind our madness. We want to take our new found hand lettering skills and create inspiring and uplifting words that affect others in a positive way. So we took a page from Always’ #LikeAGirl campaign book and made this free printable, “Like A Girl” promoting that girls and women are capable of extraordinary things.

You can access the free printable here and fill in what you do Like A Girl! We would love to see what you all do like a girl so use #_likeagirl and tag us @simplepressdesign. Cheers!!

Gold Foil Invitation Suite

This last summer we had the privilege of designing and printing this gorgeous invitation suite.  The bride to be had elegant nuptials set to be at the Cabrillo National Monument and Lighthouse and was looking for an invitation set to dazzle.  Well, 24 karat gold is the standard for gold foil printing and it does not disappoint.  Simple design with elegant calligraphic font and adornments, printed on Classic Crest 100 lb. paper in gold foil with the whole suite wrapped in a gold glitter belly band and monogram square.

SnapBibs Branding

SnapBibs is a long-time client of ours and we LOVE working with them. ¬†Not only are they great to work with, they have a WONDERFUL product as well. ¬†As a mom, I am the biggest fan of SnapBibs–the kiddos can’t pull them off, they cover a wide area, they roll up nice for the diaper bag, and they’re super cute. ¬†We’ve had the privilege of doing a couple rebrands with them and this is their latest look. ¬†We love the clean, modern feel that pairs so well with the product and we love creating all of their marketing materials so that everything has a cohesive feel. ¬†Not to mention it saves them time from having to manage the “looking good” part on their own–small businesses have enough on their hands, am I right? ¬†We’ve loved watching this company grow and to grow with them–and we are currently working on the product packaging for their wholesale customers, it’s going to be great!

Tea Towel Fun

We have been busy busy busy around here getting ready for The Swoon Event here in San Diego on February 28th. We are so pumped to be a part of it and we have been working tirelessly (when you have little babes, that’s the only way you work) to get everything ready. As part of the raffle, we are contributing a fun hand-lettered tea towel. We started off with some sketches and started writing out our saying with our trusty calligraphy pen. After finding one we liked, we digitized it, used our wonderful Silhouette machine to cut a stencil and painted on to the towel. Voila! A simple and adorable accessory to any kitchen. For your chance to win this little beauty, make sure to buy your tickets today! Hope to see you there!!

This couple planned their vows under the picturesque Cypress trees of the Martin Johnson House in La Jolla, CA.  They wanted their invitation suite to carry the Cypress trees and the simple elegance of their special day.  The invitations were printed on a beautiful cream, felt textured 100 lb. cover cardstock.

M & J All American Wedding

M and J tied the knot this summer to a beautifully themed wedding suite and day-of-event details done by the talented Rebecca. ¬†The¬†also had a website and save-the dates that were also done¬†to compliment the theme of All-American/Maps/Nautical Details¬†that coincides with their romance: she’s worked in GIS and he’s a marine, they met on the 4th of July and their relationship developed in several different locales.¬† The invites were printed on a beautiful cotton paper and assembled with a custom liner, nautical stickers, and adorable baker’s twine.

The Knot Networking Event

Last week we were able to attend The Knot Market Mixer to eat and mingle with other professionals in the wedding and baby industry.  We had a great time, met some wonderful people, snagged some tips, ate some goodies, and basked in the gorgeousness of the historic Hotel Del Coronado.  Here are some photos of the event!

Winter Wedding

It may be warm outside but fall/winter brides¬†are already thinking of cozy evenings, candles, rich florals, and for some, even Christmas festivities. Kiersten and Trevor are one couple who loved the holiday season so much no other time would do for their mid-December nuptials. ¬†Wanting to feel decidedly Christmas with a cardinal and ivory color palette, but¬†still simple and¬†understated to match their at-home evening dinner, their invite was flat printed on an ivory linen with matching cardinal envelope. ¬†Kept unfussy with A6 sized announcement/invite and separate ceremony card, Kiersten and Trevor¬†“simply adored” it.
